About Ledgerline

Ledgerline shares general pension information for people working independently in Ireland, including contractors, freelancers and sole traders.

Why we created this website

When My Future Fund launched in January 2026, it brought most employees into a workplace pension automatically. The self-employed were left out: no employer, no auto-enrolment, no state top-up. Saving for retirement is still possible and often tax-efficient, but you have to set it up yourself, and the rules are not easy to find in plain English.

We explain PRSAs, age-based tax-relief limits, questions to raise with providers and key dates in accessible language.

About the publisher

Ledgerline is an independently published source of general information.

How information is reviewed

Our guides draw on primary sources and are reviewed after each Budget. We intend to arrange an independent review by a qualified financial adviser and will share details if that takes place.
